Bios
Chief Executive Officer

Brad Verrico is Chief Executive Officer of Verrico Associates. He manages the management system programs for the company, including RC14001®, RCMS®, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001. In his 20 years at Verrico Associates, Brad has consulted with over 350 chemical and petrochemical companies about auditing and management systems. He has visited over 500 facilities and interviewed over 25,000 employees from CEOs to plant operations staff.

Working for a recognized auditor training company, Brad has trained over 500 people in management systems auditing, including registrar auditors, accreditation auditors, trade association staff, and industry auditing professionals. Using the experience gained from auditing and consulting, Brad personally developed much of the American Chemistry Council’s RC14001 technical specification and guidance documents for industry and auditors. In addition, he helped to develop the technical specification and guidance documents for the ACC’s Responsible Care Management System (RCMS), the “non-ISO” option for Responsible Care certification.

Brad also engages in ISO-based activities for within the chemical, petrochemical, manufacturing and other industries. Brad trains, audits and helps companies implemented ISO 14001 and ISO 9001. Additional industry experience includes pharmaceutical, diagnostics, transportation/logistics, energy and mining.

Brad is a Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA) for Responsible Care from BEAC. He graduated from the University of Delaware.  

Brad lives with his wife and 5 children in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. He is an active volunteer in youth sports coaching and a sponsor of youth sports leagues in the area.


Mark Lower, GIT

Operations Manager


Mark Lower is the Operations Manager for Verrico Associates. He manages the daily operations of the business, provides project management and business development support for the organization. 


Mark has experience working with Clients by providing implementation assistance and conducting both internal audits and gap analyses. During his tenure with Verrico Associates, he has successfully guided numerous Clients in various industries to gaining certification to a variety of standards. He is an active auditor for Verrico Associates, currently conducting audits to the chemical industry Responsible Care® requirements and several ISO standards. Mark provides project management support for multi-site audit activities. The systems he supports include: RCMS®:2023, RC14001®:2023, ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, OHSAS 18001(ret.), and ISO 45001:2018.


Mark graduated from University of Wisconsin – Madison with two Bachelor of Science degrees in Geology and Chinese Language. He is also enlisted in the United States Army Reserves as an engineer. He lives in Wilmington, Delaware and enjoys hiking, mapping and reading science fiction.

Senior Associate

Ralph Carito has over 25 years experience in the environmental, health and safety (EHS) field. Prior to his present position, Ralph held Vice President and Director level positions in manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and consulting/engineering companies. His career dates back to front line supervision in the chemical manufacturing industry.

Ralph is a practical leader and strategist with a proven track record of improving customer satisfaction, efficiency and quality. He has extensive experience in benchmarking and identifying industry trends. Clients describe him as passionate and result-oriented with a strong ability to break down EHS, waste regulations and issues into small, manageable pieces for successful implementation. Ralph helps Clients comply with EHS regulations and requirements while helping to protect their interest and bottom line.

Ralph’s specific areas of expertise include air/water/waste permitting, Responsible Care®, EHS compliance auditing, program development, reporting, training, site assessments and investigations, soil/groundwater remediation, underground storage tank (UST) closures, waste management/disposal, asbestos surveys/abatement, construction safety, indoor air quality, industrial hygiene, radon testing/mitigation and development/improvement of safety culture.

Ralph resides in Hackettstown, New Jersey, and frequently visits his children and other family members around the country.


Art Gillen, CPEA
Senior Associate

Art Gillen has been consulting for 15 years after spending 25 years in the chemical industry, providing engineering and regulatory and legislative compliance and advocacy support. His chemical industry experience (BASF & Union Carbide) included the development and guidance of environmental, health and safety (EHS) compliance and systems audits and conducted training in policy, program and procedure development; ISO 14001; risk-based decision making; the impact of “green issues” on the chemical industry; performance metrics; and activity-based EHS cost accounting. For several years he directed EHS auditing and information management groups.

Art was a representative in the Society of Chemical Manufacturers & Affiliates’ (SOCMA’s) Environmental Quality Committee, including 5 years as chairman and also served on the SOCMA Board of Governors for 4 years. Similarly, he represented BASF on the Environmental Management Committee for the American Chemistry Council (ACC, formerly CMA).

Art has presented at industry and government sponsored conferences on various EHS, and Responsible Care topics such as ACC’s Responsible Care Conferences, SOCMA’s INFORMEX, Air and Water Management Association (AWMA), Joint Services P2 Conferences, and SOCMA and CMA Environmental Workshops.

Since becoming an EHS consultant, he has worked in pollution prevention, groundwater remediation and management systems, including ISO 14001, ISO 9001, OSHAS 18001, the American Chemistry Council’s RCMS & RC14001, and the SOCMA ChemStewards Management System (CSMS).  

He is a BEAC-accredited RCMS/RC14001 Lead Auditor Trainer and has trained over 300 individuals. He has assisted over 50 member companies in training, implementation and auditing of various EHS management systems. As a BEAC accredited RCMS auditor he has conducted over 60 RCMS and RC14001 internal and certification audits. He has also conducted numerous CSMS verification audits.

Art lives with his wife in Greenville, Tennessee, where they enjoy beekeeping, cow herding, farming, family and friends.


Maryan Walter
Senior Associate

Maryan Walter is a Senior Associate with Verrico Associates. Maryan has over 17 years of experience in the product stewardship, sustainability, regulatory compliance as well as advocacy support in the chemicals industry. Her chemical industry experience included implementing product stewardship management systems, leading product sustainability teams, managing budgets and working directly with regulators to support company initiatives.  

Maryan holds special expertise in designing product stewardship, compliance and sustainability programs and processes that support organizations to meet their sustainability and corporate commitments.

Maryan focuses on the following Client solutions: 
  • Emerging and existing global product regulatory impact assessments
  • Product stewardship program development and implementation
  • Product Stewardship Risk Assessments; 
  • Responsible Care Management System® and RC14001® management system maintenance and auditing; and 
  • Product and process safety audits 
Maryan is a member of the Product Stewardship Society on sits on the education committee, she contributed to the Core Competencies for the Product Stewardship Professional and hosts meetups to support the field of product stewardship. Maryan participated in the American Chemistry Councils committee on updating Product Safety Codes and designed other product safety tools. Maryan has a B.S. in Biology from Millersville University and an MBA with an emphasis on International Management from Drexel University. 

Maryan lives with her husband and two daughters in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Maryan actively works with Junior Achievement of South-Central PA on their day programs bringing STEM-based day activities to thousands of students every year. She is also the Director of Sustainability Coaching with McNichol Early Childhood Education Lab, Drexel University School of Education. 

Emilie Oishi
Senior Associate

Emilie Oishi is a retired Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) manager with forty years experience primarily in the chemical manufacturing industry. She is a Certified Industrial Hygienist, who focused on improving site safety and health performance through increased employee participation and management leadership. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from University of California Santa Barbara and a Master’s degree in Environmental Health from Colorado State University.                                                                                             
Emilie’s strengths include enhancing EHS systems through best practice implementation in Behavioral Safety, Hazard Reporting, Critical Work Permits, Lockout Tagout, Ergonomic/EHS Risk Assessments, EHS Training/ Communication, Incident Investigation/ Root Cause Analysis and Contractor Safety.

Emilie directed and implemented occupational health programs including Employee Exposure Assessment and Control, Medical Surveillance, Injury Case Management, Hearing Conservation, Personal Protective Equipment, and Hazard Communication. She also managed site and supply chain security to meet DHS requirements.

Emilie has extensive experience in the effective development and implementation of EHS management systems including RC14001:2023 and OHSAS 18001 (ret.). She is trained as a Lead Auditor in RC14001 and RCMS:2023 and has conducted over 25 days of EHS management system and compliance audits.  

David M. Sandidge
Senior Associate

David Sandidge has over 30 years’ experience in the chemicals, plastics and fibers industries, improving performance in manufacturing, quality, supply chain, environmental, health and safety (EHS) and sustainability from plant, corporate and trade association perspectives. He is a recognized expert in the development, implementation, operation, leadership, assessment / auditing and improvement of EHS organizations and systems.

Prior to recently joining Verrico Associates as a Senior Associate, David was a Senior Director, Responsible Care® and Value Chain Outreach, at the American Chemistry Council. His responsibilities included supporting Member Companies in their Responsible Care implementation efforts and collaborating with other international trade associations to develop and implement Responsible Care globally, primarily in the Middle East and China. David led the successful Responsible Care Workshop / Webinar series which reached hundreds of EHS professionals at virtually all Member and Partner companies. He also supported recruiting, on-boarding and retention of Member companies during a period of 50% membership growth.

David worked for over 25 years at Eastman Chemical Company in a variety of manufacturing, EHS, joint venture, operations support and sustainability leadership roles, He was responsible for EHS for global manufacturing sites at Eastman, including compliance assurance, auditing, site support and acquisition integration. David was Responsible Care Coordinator for Eastman and served on ACC’s Responsible Care Committee.

David has BS and MS degrees in industrial and systems engineering from the University of Tennessee and an MBA from Auburn University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer and Certified Quality Engineer and has successfully implemented a variety of management systems, including RCMS®, RC14001®, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

Mark has experience working in the Environmental Health and Safety industry as both an analyst and Operations Manager. He is also enlisted in the United States Army Reserves as an engineer. He has studied and participated in a cultural exchange program for six months in Tianjin, China and is knowledgeable of Chinese language and customs.

Roger Johnson, CIH, CSP
Senior Associate

Roger Johnson has 30+ years of experience in workplace environmental, health and safety (EHS) compliance. Key responsibilities have included conducting comprehensive compliance audits, EHS and industrial hygiene consulting, risk reduction and liability minimization. He has worked as a member of a corporate law department, providing litigation support and regulatory advice on workplace and product-related legal matters. 

Roger is an OSHA Authorized Trainer, American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified environmental management system (EMS) and occupational health and safety assessment system (OHSAS) trainer. He also has significant product quality and regulatory assessment expertise.

Roger focuses his Client solutions in the following technical areas:
  • safety and health compliance and regulatory audits;
  • litigation support;
  • safety management program development and implementation;
  • industrial hygiene assessments and evaluation;
  • product regulatory and safety assessments, including hazard analysis and critical control points
  • (HACCPs);
  • product safety; and
  • process safety audits
Roger has a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.S. in Statistics from the University of Illinois and a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. He is a Certified Industrial Hygienist, a Certified Safety Professional and a Certified Process Safety Management Auditor.

Roger lives with his wife in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. They have several children in the area.


Bill Etheridge
Senior Associate

Bill worked for an international chemical manufacturing company for 37 years before retiring in 2014. The bulk of his experience was in developing and managing a fully integrated standards-based management system for ISO 9001 and ISO/RC14001 and he was instrumental in implementing the ISO 50001 requirements prior to his retirement. In addition, Bill support individual facilities certified to AS9100 and QS9000. His certifications included ASQ Quality Manager, ASQ Quality Auditor and BEAC Certified Professional Environmental Auditor.

Bill's experience over his career included planning and conducing internal audits at multiple sites, training internal audit teams and overseeing the document control, corrective/preventive actions and management review processes. In addition to his standards-related experience, Bill's background included supervisor roles in Human Resources and Training & Management Development and shop-floor experience with a complex continuous chemical manufacturing process.

Bill is a graduate of Auburn University and the University of Mobile. He lives in east-central Alabama with his wife and their five rescue dogs. His main interest is in developing the property they own.


Steven Hubertus
Senior Associate

Steven Hubertus is an ISO 9001:2015 and RC14001®:2015/RCMS®:2013 Lead Auditor with Verrico Associates. Prior to working with Verrico Associates, he worked for over 35 years in the chemical manufacturing industry. His career ranges from process engineering to plant management for companies that certified under ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and RC14001. He has experience managing facilities ranging from 35 employees up to over 500. 

Steve graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He lives near Lafayette, Louisiana with his wife and one daughter. Four other children and seven grandchildren are also a big part of his life. He enjoys outdoor and hunting activities, especially with his grandchildren.
