REACh Compliance

In 2007, the European Union's (EU's) Council of Environmental Ministers formally adopted new requirements for the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (REACh). With this action came the responsibility of each company to take strides to ensure a safer work environment for its employees and a cleaner environment for their neighbors.

ECHA ALERT

On October 6, 2008, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) released a news alert re-emphasizing its approach to REACh pre-registration.  Several clarifications were made including the fact that companies must arrange pre-registration even when their upstream suppliers commit to pre-registering their products.  

This clarification applies to:
  • Substances shipped out of the EU that come back to the EU in preparations; and
  • All monomers contained in polymers shipped to the EU at more than 2% by weight.
